In a glass dish marinate four 6 ounce salmon filets topped with 1 thickly sliced red onion in a mixture of 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce, 2 Tbsp vinegar, 4 cloves minced garlic, 1 tsp dried ginger and 1 tsp oil for 15 – 30 minutes. Remove salmon and onion from the marinade and grill on a greased grill rack over hot fire until flaky.
Oh the weather outside is frightful and the fire is so delightful, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
As the winter weather gets winter-ier, people want to supplement their home heat with a wood burning fireplace insert. In addition to making decisions about what type of insert to install, you need to line your chimney with a stainless steel flue liner. Why do you need the liner?
Line your chimney with a stainless steel flue liner for safety, efficiency and economy. The stainless steel flue liner attaches directly to your wood burning fireplace insert to make a smooth transition for the smoke and creosote and minimizing the creosote buildup. The stainless steel flue liner will provide more heat into your room since it will be sized to your wood burning insert and not draw excessive amounts of heat up the chimney. You will get more heat, burn less wood and it will be far easier to clean your insert with a stainless steel flue liner. So let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
This is a simple and seasonal recipe from our online recipe e-book Seasonal Side Dishes from the Grill.
Cut 3 acorn squash in half and remove seeds. Brush the flesh side of each squash with 3 tsps oil. Cover each squash half with foil. Poke holes in foil to let the smoke through and put squash, cut side down in a 225 degree smoker for 2 hours or until the squash is tender. In a saucepan, melt 6 Tbsps butter and add 2 tsps cinnamon, 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/2 tsp chili powder. Drizzle the spicy butter over the squash half and serve.
This is great served with marinated pork chops and Robert’s Grill Wilted Romaine Salad.
Modify this recipe to a gas grill by not poking holes in the foil. Cook just till the squash is tender. The sweetness of the cinnamon and brown sugar is kicked up by the chili powder. Yummm…

The cozy sound of a crackling fire, the fragrance of wood smoke and saving money is all good. Burning wood is an economical and sustainable method of primary or auxiliary heating. People often ask what they should look for in a wood burning stove.
Consider a number of things when purchasing a wood burning stove.
There are operations and efficiency factors and construction material considerations. There are number of factors that make the stove safer and easier to operate such as an ash pan, an air wash system for the glass, and a re-burn system for clean burning and maximum efficiency to name a few. A good quality cast iron stove is more durable and radiates heat better than a steel jacketed stove. A cast iron stove has a unique look and design that makes them more attractive.
Maschino’s has a large selection of wood stoves to give you a variety of choices. Since 1952 we have been keeping you warm in winter. Our in-house Service Staff offers installation and service work.
A side story to wood burning…on what NOT to do. Several years ago an elderly man purchased a wood burning insert (not from us). The unit was installed and the gentleman got ready to light his first fire. He remembered how his dad started a fire and got out the gas can to douse the wood. The match ignited the soaked wood, the insert blew completely out of the masonry fireplace. Fortunately the gentleman was not hurt and the insert was re-installled. A good thing to not do….
